Working on the paleo redux ebook and a little personal update

So I haven't posted in a while so felt like I should update. I still have a long ways to go on my healing journey. I found out that the 23andme test is 100 dollars as opposed to 300 dollars. I get some supplements in soon that should help me out, so I can make "MTHFRade". I've been working on the book here and there on some of the articles/chapters. Haven't looked into naturopathy (studying it), I still want to get better before I delve into that though. I see my doctor in a couple of weeks to look into some things (stool test and heavy metals test), and maybe by that time I will have the 23andme test but I doubt it. Aside from that the world isn't ending so thats awesome and I might see hobbit on xmas, so yay!

A little personal update

So I finally got an MTHFR genetic test done and turns out I have a double mutation on the A1298 gene so the gene I got was A1298CC. It was very awesome to hear that news and since then things have been going great. I was also able to get rid of about 1,000 of debt due to medical bills which is always awesome. Im just waiting now to see how I do to some supplements, try different ones out, try and improve my digestion and see how things progress.

I was down with the sickness

This was the sickest I've been in probably 2-3 years. I did something similar to what I did back then as well to help "cure" it. When I'm sick I don't like to take too much medicine, except maybe painkillers and then not too much of that either. Most medicines, especially over the counter for flu/cold, just make you feel better, mask symptoms and In my opinion takes your body longer to recover. I did end up taking some Nyquil though, because my nose was plugged up, but I'd recommend it only as a last resort. I took some supplements, and used a nasal rinse 2x a day and it helped a lot. The supplements and protocol is heavily borrowed from a blog post by Timothy Ferriss that you can find here: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2008/03/18/4-anti-cold-cocktails-that-work-from-ancient-china-to-german-alcoholics-and-modern-labs/ I only took an epsom bath once, which I usually do once a week (I take it with baking soda and oats as well). I only made the tea once, and since I couldn't find ginger root I used ground ginger and and orange peel. For supplements I also took some alpha lipoic acid and cinnamon. Simply put here is what you can do and will help a lot: Part 1: Make ginger root/orange peel tea. Basically boil ginger root (peeled) and orange peel, then drink. Part 2: Take Epsom salt bath (optionally with about a cup of baking soda and a cup of oats in a sock tied up, you dont want to make oatmeal in your bathtub) Part 3: Take these supplements. Alpha lipoic acid (go by instructions on supplement bottle) Cinnamon (take with every meal) Probiotics (the good kind that you refrigerate, and take with every meal) vitamin C (8-10 grams, its water soluble, and therefore very hard to overdose on) Garlic (3 times a day, the kind I had was 100 mg, so 200 mg 3x a day) Green Tea extract (go by instructions on supplement bottle) Part 4: Nasal Rinse Use a neti pot, this: http://shop.neilmed.com/s.nl/it.A/id.140/.f?sc=2&category=6 or anything you can get your hands on. Its basically flushing your nasal passages with a mixture of water, salt and/or baking soda. Helps a lot with relieving sinus pressure and allowing you to breathe better. I take some sleep aid as well, melatonin seems to put me out quickly and advil/tylenol pm seems to help a lot as well. The green tea extract and alphia lipoic acid was just to add some more antioxidants but you should be just as good with all the other stuff. In other news, despite being at the tail end of this sickness I have been getting a lot better sleep. I also see my doctor soon and look forward to discussing some things with her, getting some testing done and getting more progress towards being healed.

Introduction

This is a blog im starting to mainly focus on health, especially my health. I may in the future develop this blog into something more, a book or ebook but right now Im keeping it focused on me, what I've learned, experienced, etc. My health has been a major focus of my life for the past few years. Within the past few years I've spent quite a lot of money, time, effort to try and fix things and also make sense of what I am going through. For me I started to develop problems sometime in 2009. 2009 was a hectic and crazy year, I had lost a lot of weight, got to my lowest weight I have been since high school (240), started a business with Amway but also lost a close friend I had known since high school. As time went on though things started to deteriorate, I had some troubles with some personal relationships I had, I decided to quit doing Amway and the stresses of my job also started to affect me. As I started to go on a semi paleo diet and go to a full on paleo diet, It got harder to think, concentrate, I would get fatigued a lot easier, sleep a lot more. As time went on I even gained back weight I had lost plus more. For a long time I blamed not only myself and others but also the diet. I came to a few breaking points and even had a few minor mental breakdowns. I thought I was for a time losing my mind but it had more to do with health issues I had developed. I don't think the paleo diet is bad but think that often times it needs to be adjusted to the individual and a more relaxed and open approach to the diet is better. For a long time I didn't get much help or didn't even know where to look or what I Was dealing with. I had little point of reference for what I was dealing with it was traumatic in a lot of ways. Only within the past year or so after going to about 5-6 doctors, have I found someone that can help. Anyways, I will update as often as I can, I've started a few blogs and websites before but this one I am really passionate and invested in.
